3 December 2007

Dear All

Just a few items to update you on:

Minutes

Please click for final version of minutes from the meeting of the SSMEI Sound of Mull Working Group held on the 14th November 2007. I have also attached a slightly revised version of the project brief (463kb .pdf), working group brief (188kb .pdf) and questions and answer document (188kb .pdf), as some slight changes were suggested and arose from the Working Group meeting e.g. community drop ins, so please replace any copies that you might have.

Next meeting

We are planning to hold the next Working Group meeting in Lochaline on Tuesday 12th February, as this is one of the better days for ferries. Could you please let us know if you have any trouble with this date. We hope that this should be enough notice to allow most members of the working group to attend.

Chair

We had a meeting last week with John Wilson to discuss the possibility of him chairing the working group. John was  suggested by a few of you at the last meeting as someone who might be suitable. John was very positive about the project and has agreed to take on the job subject obviously to the approval of the working group.  Could we please ask members of the working group to  let us know by Friday 7th Dec  if you would/would not agree to John chairing future working group meetings. If the majority is ‘yes’ then we will go with John. If not then we will look in to other options, such as someone from SAMS.  Please see below a brief summary of John’s background to help you in your decision making:

John Wilson MBE

John has lived on the Isle of Mull for 37 years and was a Councillor with Argyll and Bute Council for 21 years. During his time as Councillor he was Convenor for the Council for 4 years. Now retired from Council duties, John has been Chair of the War and Peace Museum in Oban for 6 years, is Vice-Chair of the Primary Care Trust Hospital and sits on the board for both the Hydroelectric Community Trust Scheme and the Prince’s Youth Business Trust. As well as having a knowledge of the area, John has an understanding of aquaculture and fishing in the locality through family involvement in these sectors.

Website

The website is now up and running properly with various information on it. The address is a bit longwinded unfortunately as it sits within the depths of the Council’s site but the link is below. Alternatively you can find it by searching the Argyll & Bute Council website or via Google! Click here or copy and paste this url into your browser:

Community drop in/meetings

It was agreed at the working group meeting that we would look in to having a base on Tobermory and Morvern (Lochaline most likely) where we would be available once a month so that anyone with an interest in the project can come and chat to us. It was decided by the working group that this was a preferable option over a large community meeting. We are going to use a room in the Tobermory Council office and the first will be on the 19th December between 11:45 -15:45 and this will be advertised. We are still looking in to possibilities for Morvern at the moment.

We will e-mail again shortly to confirm the next meeting and results of the vote on the chair. In the mean time if you have any questions or information you would like to provide please get in touch.
