Dear Hannah/Mark

The Scottish Sustainable Marine Environment Initiative (SSMEI) project for the Sound of Mull was launched in June 2007. The project aims to deliver integrated and sustainable management of the marine and coastal areas of the Sound of Mull through the development of a voluntary marine spatial plan.

Myself and Gordon Turnbull have been employed to take forward this project and are based in the Marine and Coastal Development Unit of Argyll and Bute Council. We are in the process of meeting with relevant stakeholders to set up a Working Group for the project which should be established in the next month. This will be will be fundamental in developing the voluntary marine spatial plan and will include representatives of users of the Sound of Mull marine and coastal environment, local communities and regulators. More information on the project, the role of the Working Group and the wider Liaison Network can be found in the attached documents.

We are keen to have charter boat representation on the working group and we thought that the Argyll Charter Boat Association would be a good starting point, given the number of boats potentially using the area. Would you be able to advise if you are involved in the ACBA and so if yourselves or someone else from the association would be interested in being on the working group for the project?

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Many thanks for your time and look forward to hearing from you.
